Growing up in a denomination where God was portrayed as angry and impersonal, I was taught that penance was the only way to get on His good side. This being the case, I decided He was someone to keep my distance from as much as possible. In my mid-twenties, I began to watch Christian television and saw testimonials of people “finding God” and getting their lives turned around. Although I was extremely skeptical at first, personal trauma caused my heart to crave relief. Eventually, I became born again and began to read the Bible. I was amazed at the diverse methods and numerous occasions God would intervene on behalf of those who prayed to Him. Really, I was amazed that He cared. He cared for the little people, the broken people; people like me.
In today’s blogs, I will share a little about myself and included is the ‘salvation prayer’. The next series will be about ‘Who are we praying to.’ Then I will begin a series called ‘Who is God?’ In it, I will be teaching about aspects of the character of God. Better understanding of God’s character empowers us to know Him better. Understanding God’s character is also a huge factor in building confidence, trust and faith in Him. We usually judge God’s attributes by personal experiences and traditions, however, God’s true character is revealed through His Word. The more completely we understand the Word of God and His character, the more effective our spiritual growth and prayer results will be.
Always remember, only through God can we do great things!
